This book offers a new explanation of the development of the first three Gospels based on a careful examination of both patristic testimony to the “Hebrew Gospel” and internal evidence in the canonical Gospels themselves. The purpose of this opening chapter has been to give an overview of the testimony to the Hebrew Gospel in the patristic era, specific quotations from which will be discussed in the next chapter. As noted at the outset of this chapter, there is an extensive and diverse testimony in the early centuries of Christianity to an early Hebrew Gospel.
